Inspiration

I am constantly inspired by a variety of different sources; it is so important to keep up to date with the work of practicing designers and the vast content that online blogs and sites have to offer means we are all able to do this much more easily than ever before.

Despite being a self confessed Pinterest addict, I don't think you can beat turning through the pages of the latest Elle decoration that has landed on the doorstep or the first flick through a newly borrowed library book with a cup of tea! When researching I think its important to stumble upon new finds to keep ideas fresh, I always look outside of the textiles industry as it's often the case that the best inspiration is drawn from the least likely or most varied of places.

Abstracted Woodland

I really love to draw, especially when experimenting with different tools and building up textures and marks. In this project I was particularly inspired by the fascinating marks of Cy Twombly. Below is my favourite drawing; a collection of found florals lined up for examination.

And a couple of sunflowers thrown in as they are my favourite flower and were home grown!

Over the next few posts I will upload some images of my recent work which was produced during last terms self initiated project.

Abstracted Woodland

The concept of this project was to tell the story of an english woodland, capturing the intrigue and magic of a new place to create a fresh representation of a traditional subject.

This is a small series of woodland florals
created with ink and relief printing in the print room

The Return of the Blogger.

I have been very absent from my blog lately (apologies!) and I think it is about time it was updated to bring everybody up to speed with what has been going on over the past few months. Firstly, third year is hectic! Over the next few posts I'll bring you up to date with my recent work and other bits and bobs that might be of interest.

For now i'll leave you with a link to this image which is currently in a 'Life of Pi' competition on the Talenthouse website. Take a look if you have chance, there are some beautiful photographs representing the theme of a life changing journey.

This image was captured from out of the back of a camper van in Nelson, New Zealand during a journey of a lifetime
